SUBSIDIZED TUITION Program Information Details

Subsidized Rates*

To keep our dojo as inclusive as we can, we will (at our discretion) offer a discount off of our standard tuition to a percentage of our students whose income is below the rate to qualify for Low Income Public Housing.

  • Adult rate: $120 per month
  • Teen rate: $95 per month
*All appropriate membership terms still apply to subsidized tuition.
Background

Providing subsidized tuition is one way we hope to combat income inequality and create community in Seattle.

We set our prices at competitive market rates; we charge what we feel is a good value for the highest level of instruction available and an individual commitment to each student. We charge what we need to charge to sustain overhead and growth in Seattle’s rapidly changing economic climate.

The reality of capitalism is that the industries that generate the highest wages are not always the ones that create the culture of a city and improve its communities. We want a dojo where artists, scientists, musicians, teachers, students, and small-business owners can also afford to train.

How to Apply

Eligibility for subsidized tuition is based on the qualification guidelines for Low Income Public Housing Eligibility through the Seattle Housing Authority, if you qualify there, you’ll qualify here.

First, check the chart at the link above to see if you qualify, then provide proof of income to Fighting Chance Seattle before you join.

Each student relationship is important to us. The trial period is an opportunity for the student, parent, and dojo to evaluate if membership would be a good fit.

We work closely with each new student, teaching fundamentals, introducing them to other students, and getting to know them.

How it Works

We’re a community-oriented dojo, not a big fitness studio, and each student relationship is important to us. We provide individualized attention and feedback to help each student meet their goals.

We encourage you to try our classes for two weeks to see if we’re a good fit before you commit to training.
