Chapter 6

Eye of the Storm

Being a teen is crossing the threshold: neither child nor adult, but somewhere inbetween, moving through chaos. Changes coming at you from all directions. In our dojo, learn to be your own anchor, to find stillness in the storm around you. Be seen, heard, valued, and accepted. Be weird. Be brilliant. Be strong. Be you.

We start from this radical idea: you’re a person. You have thoughts, feelings, autonomy and value. You deserve to be seen and heard. You deserve to be treated with respect, not talked down to. This program is a practice run for adulthood. The training is fun: you’ll learn to punch, kick, and defend yourself; but you’ll be expected to do the work, show up, try hard, take responsibility, be a peer leader. You’ll be supported in your martial arts journey by senior students and teaching assistants who started just where you are today. Grow into the person you want to become. You’ll leave here more comfortable around adults, better at setting boundaries. You’ll know how to communicate around consent. You’ll develop a physical practice and learn to feel at home in your body. And you’ll be a part of our community.

details

Sensei Jordan begin his training as a teen, seen here at age 16 with his instructor Master Leonard Galli.

Teen Classes are an extracurricular activity, designed to provide after-school support, mentorship, and training to teens. To achieve the benefits of martial arts training we require a season-long commitment and a minimum of twice-weekly attendance.

Enrollment is open all-season, you can join at any time and complete the duration of the term.

Membership is billed monthly via automated debit or credit. We do not accept cash or checks.

Our new student onboarding process has four steps. Membership is offered based on successful completion of all steps.

  • Request a Trial

The student or parent will need to fill out the form below. We’ll review your request and contact you.

  • Schedule Trial

We’ll work directly with parents or guardians to sign a liability waiver and schedule your trial.

  • 2 Week Trial

The trial is an opportunity to assess if this is a good fit for the student, parent, and dojo. We’ll discuss the opportunity to become a member at the end of the trial.

  • Initiation

Students who successfully complete the trial quest will be invited to join the dojo. You’ll receive your first belt and boxing gloves once your membership is confirmed.
